The ,American University Club, Singapore, has a history that traces some sixty years back, long before Singapore
attained its independence.
Shortly in the aftermath of the last
world war when even the global economy earnestly seeks equilibrium, Singapore's political and industrial ambient
reached an immense level of instability and ruin. Even the most fundamental economic activity demands revival, and higher
education offers little value, let alone the recognition of foreign education.
A humble group of American and Canadian
university graduates returned to Singapore in 1950 only to realize a modest prestige achieved by US and Canadian higher education
in this part of the world.
The English's colonial presence, coupled
with a relatively low profile of the Americas during that time, attributed to the low ranking of US and Canadian education
in Singapore. Determined to alter the perception from the industry, and concurrently to publicize the quality of US and Canadian
education, this group of graduates led by AUC’s first president, Mr Fong Kwok Fhiung (Secretary Ms Tay Wee
Ling) pioneered the American University Club, Singapore.
The club was incepted with a meek start,
but a vision of substantial gravity. The English governance was invalided after Singapore achieved independence, and on April
19th 1962, AUC was officially established as a club listed in the Registry of Society.
Over the years, the mission of the club
remains steadfast in bridging the gap between corporate Singapore, and, US and Canadian education. Apart from fabricating
corporate relations, the club also takes every opportunity to celebrate US festivals, bringing fond memories in America to alumni in Singapore.
The predominant goal in all the club’s
activities aims to provide fulfilling network opportunities that benefit its members in every aspects exemplified by industry
connections, diplomatic relations, expansion of social circles..etc.
The club has achieved its generic mission years ago and stands to abide by its goals and
to serve its members and the society with a perpetual spirit.
